Chickahominy Lake Fishing Report – June 2, 2014

Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the mid to high-70’s in the main lake and up the creeks on Monday (06/02/2014). The lake level was about six inches above the top of the dam. The water was medium brown and slightly to moderately cloudy in the central lower lake.

Blue cats were scattered throughout the lake and up the creeks. Crappie were scattered along the creek and main lake shorelines, on mid-depth wood cover, and on channel edges and were hitting live minnows and small jigs and swim baits. Yellow perch were on shorelines and hydrilla flats in the main lake and up some creeks and were hitting small jigs. Bluegills and shellcrackers were in scattered loose to tight groups near traditional spawning areas and were hitting live worms and crickets, flies, and small tubes and jigs. Fliers were scattered in the creek channels and were hitting live minnows and small jigs. Bass were next to shoreline vegetation and wood cover in the creeks and main lake and were hitting frogs, stick baits, and live minnows. Pickerel were scattered in the creeks and hitting spinnerbaits and live minnows.

Fishing with Capt. Conway, Fred Hawkridge and Fred Saul had 25 bluegill, 2 shellcracker, 12 crappie, 3 yellow perch, 1 roach minnow, and 3 bass. Bruce Birdsey and Tom Porter had 21 bluegill, 2 shellcracker, 11 crappie, 2 yellow perch, 1 roach minnow, and 1 channel cat.
