Chickahominy Lake Fishing Report – May 28, 2014

Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the 80’s in the main lake and up the creeks on Wednesday (05/28/2014). The lake level was about eight inches above the top of the dam. The water was medium brown and slightly cloudy in the central lower lake.

Blue cats were scattered throughout the lake and up the creeks. Crappie were scattered along the creek and main lake shorelines and on mid-depth wood cover and were hitting live minnows and small jigs and swim baits. Yellow perch were on hydrilla flats in the main lake and up some creeks and were hitting small jigs. Bluegill and shellcracker were in scattered loose groups near traditional spawning areas and were hitting live worms and crickets, flies, and small tubes and jigs. Fliers were scattered in the creek channels and were hitting live minnows and small jigs. Bass and pickerel were next to shoreline vegetation and on hydrilla flats and were hitting live minnows, small jigs, and stick worms.

Fishing with Capt. Conway, Paul and Nathan Schneider had 18 bluegill, 1 shellcracker, 1 flier, 7 crappie, 5 yellow perch, 3 pickerel, and 3 bass. Carolyn Conway had 17 bluegill, 1 shellcracker, 3 crappie, and 1 yellow perch. Terry and Eva Rivers had 27 bluegill, 2 shellcracker, 1 flier, 6 crappie, 1 yellow perch, and 1 roach minnow.
