Chickahominy Lake Fishing Report – April 20, 2011

Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of
Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water
temperatures were in the high 60’s in the lower lake and the low 70’s up
some of the creeks on Wednesday. The lake level was a few inches above the
top of the dam and the water was stained but not muddy. A few nice yellow
perch were scattered on the mid-depth flats in the main lake and up some of
the creeks. Moderate numbers of crappie and a few decent pickerel and bass
were in the major creeks. Post-spawn crappie were scattered down the creeks
from the spawning areas, with some fish in the channels and some along the
shoreline. Some crappie were still around the spawning areas. Wright Bait
Co. and Southern Pro two inch curly tail grubs, tubes, stingers, marabou
crappie jigs, small swim baits, suspending jerk baits, and live minnows have
been the most effective baits.
