Chickahominy Lake Fishing Report – November 8

Art Conway (804-514-1486) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that
Chickahominy Lake mid-day surface water temperatures were in the low
60’s in the central lower lake on Wednesday (11/8/2023), with water at
depths below 5 feet in the high 50’s. The lake level was about even
with the top of the dam. The water was light brown, clear in the top 2
feet, slightly cloudy for the next foot, and much more cloudy for the
next several feet in the central lower lake.

A few small blue cats, channel cats, and bullheads were scattered on
flats, along drop-offs, and in channels in the main lake and in some
creeks, and when active were hitting live minnows and cut bait. Some
small to medium crappies were on wood cover on deep flats and on channel
edges in the main lake. Other crappies were moving into channels.
Crappies were slightly to moderately active, mostly hitting live
minnows, but also occasionally hitting tubes, curly tail grubs, small
swim baits, small Gulp minnows, and wet flies. White perch and a few
yellow perch were scattered or in loose aggregates on deep flats,
channel edges, and in channels in the main lake and in a few creeks, and
when active were hitting small baits including live minnows, Gulp
minnows, and swim baits. Most bluegills had abandoned shorelines.
Small bluegills were in channels and hitting small Gulp baits on
dropshot rigs. Larger bluegills were in neighborhoods of channel edge
brushpiles and would hit small Gulp baits on dropshot rigs or live worms
on deep slip bobber rigs. Some pickerel and largemouth bass were around
cypress trees, on flats, and on channel edges in the main lake. Other
bass and pickerel were in channels, on flats, or near shoreline cover
near mouths of major creeks. When active, bass and pickerel were
hitting live minnows, spinnerbaits, swim baits, stick worms, crank
baits, and jerk baits.

Fishing with Art Conway, Paul Burnett and Steve Rogers had 11 bluegills,
15 crappies, 9 white perch, 1 blue cat, and 3 largemouth bass. Tom
Porter and Sandra Rothrock 10 bluegills, 12 crappies, 10 white perch,
and 1 largemouth bass.
