Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of
Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water
temperatures were in the high 40’s to low 50’s in the lower lake and in the
low 50’s in the major creeks on Wednesday. The lake level was about a foot
and a half above the top of the dam. The water was dark but clear in the
lower lake and up the major creeks. Crappies and bass were becoming active
again in the major creeks after the snow, and were primarily in the channel.
Yellow perch were still biting below the dam. Crappies were hitting live
minnows and Wright Bait Co. and Southern Pro curlytail jigs. Bass were
hitting suspending jerk baits.
