Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of
Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water
temperatures were in the low 50’s in the lower and upper lake and in the
major creeks on Wednesday. The lake level was about a foot above the top of
the dam. The water was dark and moderately cloudy but not severely muddy in
the lower lake. Crappies, bass, and pickerel were becoming active in the
major creeks. Crappies were hitting on live minnows and on Wright Bait Co.
and Southern Pro curlytail jigs. Bass and pickerel were hitting suspending
jerk baits. Fishing with Capt. Conway, Malcolm Turnbull had 3 crappie and 5
bass. John Begala, Matt Johnson, and Zach Johnson had 4 crappie, 2 bass,
and 1 bluegill.
