Art Conway (804-514-1486) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that
Chickahominy Lake mid-day surface water was in the lower 50’s in the
lower region of the main lake on Wednesday (11/12/2025). This was a 6
degree drop over the last 2 days, and the fish were not active. The
lake level was about 1 inch above the top of the dam. The water was
light brown, clear to slightly murky in the upper 3 feet and murky below
3 feet due to an apparent layer of suspended microscopic algae.
A few blue cats, channel cats, and bullheads have been scattered on
flats, along drop-offs, and in deeper regions of channels in the main
lake. Moderate numbers of small and medium crappies have been on wood
cover near channel edges. Some crappies have moved to channel basins,
and most crappies will eventually end up in the traditional winter
holes. White perch have been in loose schools roaming channels. Most
bluegills and shellcrackers have left shorelines and shallow flats in
the main lake and moved to deep flats, channel edges, or channel basins.
A few scattered pickerel and bass have been in creek channels near
creek mouths or on main lake flats and channel edges, but most have
moved deeper.
