Chickahominy Lake Fishing Report – April 9, 2014

Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the low to mid 60’s in the lower main lake and in the mid 60’s in the major creeks on Wednesday (04/09/2014). The lake level was a little over a foot above the top of the dam. The water was medium brown and slightly cloudy in the central lower lake.

Blue cats were scattered throughout the lake and up the creeks. Moderate numbers of crappie were in the channels of the major creeks, and some were spawning in shoreline vegetation. Crappie were hitting live minnows, Kalin crappie scrubs, Wright Bait Co. curly-tail grubs, small swim baits, and small suspending jerkbaits. Some bass and pickerel were on mid-depth flats and in the main channels in the major creeks and were hitting live minnows, small swim baits, and suspending jerk baits. A few yellow perch were wandering in the creeks and were hitting live minnows and small jigs.

Fishing with Capt. Conway, Mickey Cleveland had 17 crappie, 1 yellow perch, and 1 bass. Ron Peretti, Lauren Llewellyn, and Justin Llewellyn had 8 crappie. Tom Porter and Malcolm Turnbull had 22 crappie and 2 pickerel.
