Art Conway (804-514-1486) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that
Chickahominy Lake mid-day surface water was in the lower 50’s in the
lower region of the main lake on Wednesday (11/19/2025) and has been in
this range for the last week. The lake level was about even with the
top of the dam. The water was light brown, clear to very slightly murky
in the upper 3 feet and murky below 3 feet due to an apparent layer of
suspended microscopic algae.
A few blue cats, channel cats, and bullheads have been scattered on
flats, along drop-offs, and in deeper regions of channels in the main
lake. Moderate numbers of small and medium crappies had been on wood
cover near channel edges, but most crappies have moved to channel basins
and will eventually end up in the traditional winter holes. White perch
have been in loose schools roaming channels. Most bluegills and
shellcrackers have left shorelines and shallow flats in the main lake
and moved to channel edges or channel basins. A few scattered pickerel
and bass have been in creek channels near creek mouths or on main lake
flats and channel edges, but most have moved deeper.
Fishing with Art Conway, Tom Porter caught 35 crappies, 6 white perch, 1
blue cat, and 2 largemouth bass.
