Art Conway (804-514-1486) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that
Chickahominy Lake mid-day surface water was in the upper 50’s in the
lower region of the main lake on Wednesday (10/29/2025). The lake level
was about 10 inches above the top of the dam. The water was light brown,
clear to slightly murky in the upper 4 feet and murky below 4 feet due
to an apparent layer of suspended microscopic algae.
A few blue cats, channel cats, and bullheads have been scattered on
flats, along drop-offs, and in deeper regions of channels in the main
lake. Moderate numbers of small and medium crappies have been on wood
cover near channel edges and hitting minnows under bobbers and
occasionally hitting jigs. Some crappies have moved to channel basins,
and most crappies will eventually end up in the traditional winter
holes. White perch have been in loose schools roaming channels. Most
bluegills and shellcrackers have left shorelines and shallow flats in
the main lake and moved to deep flats, channel edges, or channel basins.
A few scattered pickerel and bass have been in creek channels near
creek mouths or on main lake flats and channel edges, but most have
moved deeper.
Fishing with Art Conway, Kevin Farley, his niece Emily, and Leif Mollo
caught 25 crappies and 2 largemouth bass.
