Art Conway (804-514-1486) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that
Chickahominy Lake mid-day surface water was in the middle 60’s in the
lower region of the main lake on Wednesday (10/15/2025). The lake level
was about 7 inches above the top of the dam. The water was light brown,
clear to slightly murky in the upper 4 feet and murky below 4 feet due
to an apparent layer of suspended microscopic algae.
A few blue cats, channel cats, and bullheads have been scattered on
flats, along drop-offs, and in deeper regions of channels in the main
lake. Moderate numbers of small and medium crappies have been on wood
cover near channel edges and hitting minnows under bobbers and
occasionally hitting jigs. White perch have been in loose schools
roaming flats and channel edges. A very few bluegills and shellcrackers
have been on shorelines and flats in the main lake, but most have moved
to deep flats or channel edges. A few scattered pickerel and bass have
been in creek channels near creek mouths or on main lake flats and
channel edges.
Fishing with Art Conway, Ron Floor caught 1 bluegill, 21 crappies, and 2
largemouth bass. Jack and Dave Pong caught 52 bluegills, 11
shellcrackers, and 5 largemouth bass, all on fly rods. Tom Porter
caught 4 bluegills, 2 shellcrackers, and 10 crappies.
