Art Conway (804-514-1486) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that
Chickahominy Lake mid-day surface water was in the low 70’s in the lower
region of the main lake on Wednesday (10/1/2025). The lake level was
about 9 inches above the top of the dam. The water was light brown,
clear to slightly murky in the upper 3 feet and murky below 3 feet due
to an apparent layer of suspended microscopic algae.
A few blue cats, channel cats, and bullheads have been scattered on
flats, along drop-offs, and in deeper regions of channels in the main
lake. Small and medium crappies have been on wood cover near channel
edges and hitting minnows under bobbers and occasionally hitting jigs.
White perch have been in loose schools roaming flats and channel edges.
A few bluegills and shellcrackers have been on shorelines and flats in
the main lake. A few scattered pickerel and bass have been in creek
channels near creek mouths or on main lake flats and channel edges.
Fishing with Art Conway, Bill Schultz caught 15 crappies, 2 white perch,
and 1 largemouth bass. Jack and Dave Pong caught 55 bluegills, 9
shellcrackers, and 2 largemouth bass, all on fly rods. Tom Porter and
Sandra Rothrock caught 25 bluegills, 1 shellcracker, 4 crappies, 1 white
perch, 1 flathead catfish, and 2 largemouth bass.
