Art Conway (804-514-1486) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that
Chickahominy Lake mid-day surface water was in the high 70’s to low 80’s
(10 degrees lower than last week) in the lower region of the main lake
and in the major creeks on Thursday (8/7/2025). The lake level was
about 3 inches above the top of the dam. The water was medium brown,
clear to slightly murky in the upper 2 feet and murky below 2 feet due
to an apparent layer of suspended microscopic algae.
A few blue cats, channel cats, and bullheads were scattered on flats,
along drop-offs, and primarily in deeper regions of channels in the main
lake, but no large groups were observed. Small and medium crappies were
on wood cover near channel edges and were hitting minnows under bobbers
and occasionally hitting jigs. White perch were in loose schools
roaming flats and channel edges. A few bluegills and shellcrackers were
in creeks, but most were on shorelines and flats in the main lake. A
few scattered pickerel and bass were in creek channels or on main lake
flats and channel edges.
Fishing with Art Conway, Brian Dementi, Addison Harris, and Josh Anchor
caught 13 crappies, 7 white perch, and 1 largemouth bass. Sandra
Rothrock caught 14 bluegills, 2 shellcrackers, 16 crappies, 2 white
perch, 1 yellow perch, and 2 largemouth bass.
