Chickahominy Lake Fishing Report – May 7, 20

Art Conway (804-514-1486) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that
Chickahominy Lake mid-day surface water was in the mid to high 70’s in
the lower region of the main lake and in the major creeks on Wednesday
(5/7/2025). Water at depths below 10 feet in the main lake was in the
low 70’s. The lake level was about 2 inches above the top of the dam
and rising. The water was medium brown, clear to slightly murky in the
upper 2 feet, and murky below 3 feet due to an apparent layer of
suspended microscopic algae.

A few blue cats, channel cats, and bullheads were still scattered on
flats, along drop-offs, and primarily in deeper regions of channels in
the main lake, but no large groups were observed. Small and medium
crappies were accumulating on wood cover near channel edges and were
hitting minnows under bobbers and occasionally jigs. White perch were
in loose schools roaming over flats, especially near cypress groves.
Some bluegills and shellcrackers were in creeks. A few scattered
pickerel and bass were in creek channels or on flats.

Fishing with Art Conway, Ron Floor caught 3 bluegills, 1 shellcracker, 1
blue cat, and 1 largemouth bass. Alice Anne Potts and her Mom caught 28
bluegills, 1 shellcracker, and 10 crappies. Tom Porter and Sandra
Rothrock caught 7 bluegills, 2 shellcrackers, and 14 crappies.
