Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the high 50’s to low 60’s in the main lake on Wednesday (11/06/2013). The lake level was about even with the top of the dam. The water was light brown and very slightly cloudy in the central lower lake.
Mixed sizes of crappie were scattered on some main lake deeper wood cover and on many main lake channels and channel edges and were hitting live minnows, blade baits, tubes, Trout Magnets, and Wright Bait Co. and Southern Pro curlytail grubs. Mixed sizes of bluegill and shellcrackers were scattered in some channels in the main lake and were hitting small Gulp baits on dropshot rigs, small tubes and jigs, and live worms. A few bass were up some of the creeks, and a few bass and pickerel were on deep wood cover and channel edges in the main lake. Bass in the deeper areas were hitting blade baits and live minnows. A few blue cats were in channels in the main lake and were hitting live minnows.
Fishing with Capt. Conway, Mike Westhoven had 1 bluegill, 34 crappie, 1 channel cat, 2 pickerel, and 1 bass. Tom Porter and Hollis Pruitt had 42 crappie and 3 bass.
