Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the low 60’s in the lower lake and in the high 50’s to low 60’s in the major creeks on Wednesday. The lake level was a few inches above the top of the dam. The water was dark but clear in most areas, but was cloudy in places due to the wind over the last several days. Crappies were scattered up the major creeks and around the creek mouths, primarily in the creek channels. Crappies were hitting live minnows, Wright Bait Co. and Southern Pro curlytail jigs and tubes, small swimbaits, and Kalin crappie scrubs. Pickerel and bass were around the pad beds at the upper ends of the major creeks. Pickerel were primarily hitting live minnows. Bass were hitting jerk baits and soft plastics. Fishing with Capt. Conway, Lee Rothgeb had 19 crappie, 3 bluegill, 2 white perch, 1 blue cat, 2 pickerel, and 1 bass.
