Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of
Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water
temperatures were in the low 40’s in the lower lake and in the upper lake on
Wednesday. The lake level was a little below a foot above the top of the
dam. The water was dark and a little cloudy but not muddy in the lower
lake. Crappie were scattered over the mid-depth and deep channels
throughout the lake and were hitting Wright Bait Co. and Southern Pro one
and two inch curly tail grubs, tubes, blade baits, and live minnows. Bass,
blue cats, a few pickerel, and a few white perch are mixed in with the
crappies. Fishing with Capt. Conway, Rich Fields and Robbie Creasey had 23
crappie, 1 white perch, 2 blue cats, 1 bass, and 1 gizzard shad.
