Chickahominy Lake Fishing Report – May 11, 2011

Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of
Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water
temperatures were in the low to mid 70’s in the lower lake and in the mid to
high 70’s up some of the creeks on Wednesday. The lake level was slightly
above the top of the dam and the water was stained but not muddy. Moderate
numbers of small to medium crappie, bluegills, and pickerel and a few bass
and nice yellow perch were in the major creeks. Crappie were scattered
midway along the creeks, with most fish in the channels and a few along the
shoreline. Bluegills, yellow perch, white perch and larger crappie were
scattered over the shallow to mid-depth flats in the lower and middle
regions of the main lake. Wright Bait Co. and Southern Pro one and two inch
curly tail grubs, tubes, stingers, marabou crappie jigs, small swim baits,
suspending jerk baits, and live minnows have been the most effective baits.
Fishing with Capt. Conway, Hollis Pruitt had 18 crappie, 7 bluegill, 5 white
perch, 2 yellow perch, 3 pickerel, and 2 bass. Steve DiLoreto and Lennox
Shelton had 14 crappie, 3 white perch, 1 yellow perch, 1 blue cat, and 1
bass.
