Chickahominy Lake Fishing Report – March 11, 2015

Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the high 40’s in the main lake and the low 50’s in the major creeks on Wednesday (3/11/2015). The lake level was about six inches above the top of the dam. The water was light brown and slightly cloudy in the lower lake.

Blue cats were scattered throughout the lake, ranging from deep main lake channel areas to the creek channels and flats. Some blue cats were hitting live minnows. Many crappie were aggregated just outside major creek mouths and should move into the major creeks on sunny days. Crappie in the creeks will hit live minnows, Wright Bait Co. curlytail jigs, small tubes, small swim baits, and small suspending jerk baits. Trolling tubes or curlytail jigs in channels is an excellent method of locating crappie in the creeks. Some bass and pickerel have been in channels and on lily pad flats in the creeks and have been hitting live minnows, suspending jerk baits, and swim baits.
