CHICKAHOMINY LAKE FISHING REPORT – SEPTEMBER 3, 2014

Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the mid 80’s in the main lake and slightly higher up the creeks on Wednesday (09/03/2014). The lake level was slightly below the top of the dam. The water was light brown and slightly cloudy in the central lower lake.

Blue cats were scattered throughout the lake and up the creeks. A few crappie were along the shorelines, but most were scattered on mid-depth wood cover and on channel edges, and when active were hitting live minnows, Wright Bait Co. curlytail jigs, small tubes, and swim baits. Yellow perch were scattered on shorelines and hydrilla flats in the main lake and up some creeks and were hitting small jigs. Small to mid-sized bluegill and shellcracker were widely scattered along main lake shorelines, especially deeper shorelines, and on hydrilla flats. A few larger bluegill were around mid-depth wood cover or along channel edges. Bluegill and shellcracker were hitting live worms and crickets, flies, small tubes, small Gulp baits, small spoons, and 1 inch dark Wright Bait Co. curlytail jigs. Fliers were scattered in the creek channels and were hitting live minnows and small jigs. Bass were next to shoreline vegetation and on grass flats and wood cover in the main lake and up some creeks and were hitting frogs and toads, stick worms, creature baits, shallow crank baits, and live minnows. Pickerel were scattered in the creeks and main lake and hitting stick worms, crank baits, spinnerbaits and live minnows.

Fishing with Capt. Conway, John Smith had 17 bluegill, 3 shellcracker, 21 crappie, 1 channel cat, and 2 bass. Curt Heimbach had 1 bluegill, 23 crappie, and 3 bass. Carolyn Conway had 41 bluegill, 2 shellcracker, 1 yellow perch, 1 roach minnow, and 1 bass. Tom Porter had 70 bluegill, 4 yellow perch, 1 roach minnow, and 2 bass.
