CHICKAHOMINY LAKE FISHING REPORT – SEPTEMBER 10, 2014

Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the high 70’s to low 80’s in the main lake on Wednesday (09/10/2014). The lake level was slightly over 6 inches above the top of the dam. The water was light brown and relatively clear in the central lower lake, with murky areas near some shorelines.

Blue cats were scattered throughout the lake and up the creeks. A few crappie were along the shorelines, but most were scattered on mid-depth wood cover and on channel edges, and when active were hitting live minnows, Wright Bait Co. curlytail jigs, small tubes, spinner jigs, and swim baits. Yellow perch were scattered on shorelines and hydrilla flats in the main lake and up some creeks and were hitting small jigs. Small to mid-sized bluegill and shellcracker were widely scattered along main lake shorelines, especially deeper shorelines, and on hydrilla flats. A few larger bluegill were around some mid-depth wood cover or along channel edges. Bluegill and shellcracker were hitting live worms and crickets, flies, small tubes, small Gulp baits, small spoons, and 1 inch dark Wright Bait Co. curlytail jigs. Bass were next to shoreline vegetation and on grass flats and wood cover in the main lake and up some creeks and were hitting frogs and toads, stick worms, creature baits, shallow crank baits, and live minnows. Pickerel were scattered in the creeks and main lake and hitting stick worms, crank baits, spinnerbaits and live minnows.

Fishing with Capt. Conway, Carolyn Conway had 13 bluegill and 1 shellcracker. Capt. Bill Buck and Malcolm Turnbull had 24 bluegill, 6 crappie, 1 roach minnow, 1 blue cat, and 2 bass.
